Brighton secondary college Basketball Academy

The Brighton Secondary College Basketball Academy is an extra-curricular training program designed to enhance the basketball skills of athletes across all skill levels.

Chase Basketball provides schools across Victoria with the highest-level coaches and administration team that manage the Academy timetable and communication with student/athletes and their families. Every Academy session is scheduled to ensure a balance of school, family and sport, with academic excellence a priority.

The Academy will draw on the highest quality, committed and qualified coaches to be involved in the 32-week annual program, allowing for a total of three hours on-court time per week (two, 90-minute sessions per week). Whilst the main focus of the sessions will be on improving basketball skills, coaches will work with athletes to develop fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication and a strong work ethic.

The Academy is an all-inclusive program, meaning all students are welcome, no matter their skill level. Participating players are separated into training groups based on their age and experience, giving every student/athlete the best opportunity to progress and improve.

The Basketball Academy will reflect the coaching principles of the Chase Head Coach staff and the core value of the Secondary College; A Tradition of Excellence.

What is Brighton Secondary College Basketball Academy?

The Academy provides interested students the opportunity to pursue their chosen sport of basketball in parallel with their school subject selections. Students will undertake intensive basketball tuition through the course of their school enrolment, having access to the highest quality coaches, mentors, and teachers that the program can provide.

What should participants in the Academy expect from the program?

Participation in the Basketball Academy develops a discipline and commitment that works on individual resilience, beneficial in sport and in life. Coaches will promote aspects of leadership, tolerance, and humility, which will form the cornerstones for overall student growth and progression.

Who can join?

The Academy is open to interested students of all basketball skill levels, is a fee for service program that offers a mentoring and health/wellbeing component to ensure a rounded and inclusive sporting pursuit.

All students who enrol at Brighton Secondary College are welcome to place an application for inclusion in the Basketball Academy.

What about the coaching?

The Academy will draw on the highest quality, committed, verified and qualified coaches to be involved in the annual program. The Basketball Academy will reflect the coaching principles of the head coaching staff and the core philosophies of the school: A Tradition of Excellence.

Does the Academy cater to different skill levels?

All participating students will be categorized into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels and the Academy curriculum will be customised to suit these groups.

Athletes may elect to participate in girls only/gender diverse groups (minimum numbers required)

Players can move from one level of the Academy to another at the discretion of the coaching staff.

How long does the Academy program run?

The Basketball Academy program will run for 32 weeks per school year (2 x 1.5hr sessions per week).

What venue is the training held?
Can my child attend the Academy if they don't go to the school?

No, the Academy is only open to students of the school.

Does my child miss school due to basketball Academy?

All training is conducted before school. The only school missed will be due to tournaments and competitions, which occur a couple of times a year. All tournaments are not compulsory, although highly recommended.

What does my child wear to Academy sessions?

Every athlete receives an Academy uniform (singlet and shorts) with registration. They are expected to wear this to every training. If not, they are expected to wear their school sports uniform.
