First Aid Policy
Purpose
In an emergency situation first aid aims to maintain life, prevent further harm / injury, ease pain and prevent deterioration of the person's condition until professional medical help can be obtained.
To provide immediate care to an injured or ill person, carried out within a limited range of skills, until the injury or illness is managed or a higher level of care presents such as: a doctor, a paramedic, or a nurse.
Policy
CHASE BASKETBALL is committed to providing timely and appropriate first aid care to coaches, players/students. CHASE BASKETBALL will endeavour to have a suitable number of trained first aid coaches on staff for each program/site and provide first aid equipment to administer appropriate and adequate first aid treatment in the event of a person sustaining an injury or illness.
Procedure
The First Aid Audit must be completed bi-annually:
- External Training will be provided for all Chase Basketball coaches. Chase Basketball Head Coaches MUST be first aid trained and show evidence of completion of first aid course.
- Chase Basketball staff will also attend training for certification
- If injured or ill person is involved in school Academy classes, the coach will determine whether the student needs to be escorted to the school first aid officer and parent contacted.
- Once the injured or ill person has been assisted, coaches will complete an incident report for the HR/program manager.
- Once the injured or ill person has been assisted, HR/program manager to contact relevant parent/guardian with incident report details.
- All incident reports will be filed in the incident register for incidents or injuries,
- Data will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure there are no trends in injuries that need to be minimised.
First Aid Kits
Should any first aid equipment be used from first aid kit, coaches to notify management of replacement stock requirements. Chase Basketball First Aid Kits are reviewed and restocked regularly.
Responsibility
It is the responsibility of senior Chase Basketball manager/s to ensure that:
- Adequate and appropriate First Aid equipment is available for use at every Chase Basketball session/program/venue
- Appropriate and adequate First Aid Officers training is arranged for staff.
- First Aid Officers’ training is up to date and coach certificates are current and recorded.
It is the responsibility of all Chase Basketball coaches in charge of Chase Basketball sessions to:
- Assess if medical assistance is required.
- Administer appropriate First Aid in accordance with their training.
- Maintain First Aid records as outlined in this procedure.
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to information obtained as part of their role.
It is the responsibility of senior Chase Basketball management to:
- Inspect and maintain First Aid equipment
Nut-Free Policy
As part of ongoing safety awareness at CHASE Basketball programs, we ask parents to be mindful of any products containing nuts when preparing lunches or snacks for their children.
Whilst CHASE Basketball programs encourage a nut free environment, as they are conducted in public facilities, CHASE Basketball Programs are NOT totally nut free events.
Parents of children who have suffered any anaphylactic reaction to any foods or insect bites, need to provide CHASE Basketball administration with an up-to-date medical action plan, signed by their treating doctor, before their child can participate in CHASE Basketball activities.
CHASE Basketball staff are trained in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis
CAMP/CLINIC/PROGRAM REFUND POLICY
- Chase Basketball reserves the right to cancel or postpone any camp/clinic/program. In the event that Chase Basketball cancels a camp/clinic/program for any reason, the registration fee for affected camp/clinic/program will be refunded to participants in full, if a replacement camp/clinic/program cannot be provided or attended.
- Notification of withdrawal from any Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program must be received in writing to the camp manager (admin@chasebasketball.com.au) prior to the commencement of the camp/clinic/program.
- Withdrawal notices received after the completion of a Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program will not be considered for refund.
- Notification of a withdrawal from any Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program received prior to 1 week before camp/clinic/program commencement date, will trigger a 100% refund of fees.
- Notification of a withdrawal from any Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program received within 1 week of camp/clinic/program commencement date, will incur a $25 administration fee, withheld from camp/clinic/program registration refund.
- Notification of a withdrawal from any Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program within 24 hours of camp/clinic/program will incur a 100% withholding of fees (no refund).
- Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program fees are fully refundable with the receipt of medical advice of an illness/injury that prevents the applicant from participating (must be received prior to the commencement of the camp/clinic/program.
- Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program fees are not refundable due to ‘change of mind’ but may be transferred to future camp/clinic/programs.
- Refunds of Chase Basketball camp/clinic/program fees are at the discretion of management.
Child Safety Statement
COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY AND PROTECTION
Chase Basketball has a commitment to child safety and wellbeing through all levels of its programs and for all participants. Through inclusive and accessible opportunities, it acknowledges the importance of providing culturally safe environments and practices for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people and to keeping all children safe from abuse and harm.
What is child abuse?
Child abuse is any physical or emotional ill treatment by someone in a position of responsibility, trust or power that harms or could harm a child’s health, survival, development, or dignity.
Indicators of child abuse can include but are not limited to inconsistent or absent explanation of bruising, unexplained absences, lack of trust of adults, anxiety, or withdrawal. Chase Basketball coaches and staff are expected to put any indicators in context and report concerns to management and/or appropriate child protection services.
Reporting
Any suspicion of child abuse or neglect either by a coach or staff member or about a coach or staff member should be reported through the appropriate channels, so that Chase Basketball management can escalate to the relevant child protection authorities admin@chasebasketball.com.au. All reports are treated with the highest level of privacy and sensitivity.
Cultural, gender and ability diversity
The cultural, gender and ability needs of all participants and staff will be met as required to ensure that participation in Chase Basketball programs is not compromised. Where possible, the cultural and linguistic needs of children will be addressed in all communications to ensure appropriate levels of understanding and messaging.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy
Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is for Chase Basketball to establish, promote and maintain the mental health and wellbeing of all staff, coaches, and athletes through positive practices, and encourage staff, coaches, and athletes to take responsibility for their own mental health and wellbeing.
Chase Basketball believes that the mental health and wellbeing of our staff, coaches and athletes is key to organisational success and sustainability.
Goals
Chase Basketball aims:
- To build and maintain a sporting environment and culture that supports mental health and wellbeing and prevents discrimination (including bullying and harassment).
- To increase staff and member knowledge and awareness of mental health and wellbeing issues and behaviours.
- To reduce stigma around depression and anxiety.
- To facilitate staff, coaches, and athletes’ active participation in a range of initiatives that support mental health and wellbeing.
Scope
- This policy applies to all staff, coaches, users, and members of Chase Basketball including contractors and casual staff.
Responsibility
All staff, coaches and athletes are encouraged to:
- understand this policy and seek clarification from management where required
- consider this policy while completing work/sport-related duties and at any time while representing Chase Basketball and its programs
- support fellow staff, coaches, and athletes in their awareness of this policy
- support and contribute to Chase Basketball’s aim of providing a mentally healthy and supportive environment for all staff, coaches, and athletes.
All staff, coaches and athletes have a responsibility to:
- take reasonable care of their own mental health and wellbeing, including physical health
- take reasonable care that their actions do not affect the health and safety of other people when participating in a Chase Basketball program.
Managers have a responsibility to:
- ensure that all staff, coaches, users, and members are made aware of this policy
- actively support and contribute to the implementation of this policy, including its goals
- manage the implementation and review of this policy.
Communication
Chase Basketball will ensure that:
- all staff and coaches receive a copy of this policy during the induction process
- this policy is easily accessible by all members of the organisation
- staff, coaches, and athletes are informed when a particular activity aligns with this policy
- staff, coaches, and athletes are empowered to actively contribute and provide feedback to this policy
- staff, coaches, and athletes are notified of all changes to this policy.
Monitoring and review
Chase Basketball will review this policy twelve months after implementation and annually thereafter.
Effectiveness of the policy will be assessed through:
- feedback from staff, coaches, athletes, and management
- review of the policy by management to determine if objectives have been met and to identify barriers and enablers to ongoing policy implementation.
Academy Instalment Payment Policy
To help families manage costs, Chase Basketball offers the option to pay School Academy fees in four (4) instalments. Please read the following policy carefully before enrolling.
Instalment Payment Commitment
By selecting the 4-instalment payment option, you are entering into a binding payment agreement for the full Academy fee.
- The total Academy cost is divided into four equal payments.
- The first instalment is due at the time of registration.
- The remaining instalments will be charged automatically on the first day of every third month.
No Early Cancellation
- Subscriptions cannot be cancelled, paused, or terminated before all four instalments have been paid in full.
- This applies regardless of attendance, timetable changes, injury, illness, or change of circumstances.
- Failure to attend sessions does not remove the obligation to complete all payments.
Missed or Failed Payments
- If a scheduled payment fails, Chase Basketball reserves the right to: Reattempt the charge, and/or Temporarily suspend participation in Academy sessions until payment is resolved.
- Continued non-payment may result in referral for debt recovery.
Exceptional Circumstances
Chase Basketball may consider exceptional circumstances (such as long-term medical issues) at its sole discretion. Supporting documentation may be required. Approval is not guaranteed.
Agreement
By completing registration and selecting the instalment option, you confirm that:
- You understand the total cost of the Academy program.
- You agree to complete all four instalment payments.
- You accept that early cancellation is not permitted under this payment plan.
